Vestibular Disorder - Earthquake Hull 10th June 2018
I blogged in February 2018 about earthquakes causing people (including me) who have vestibular disorders finding their 'off balance' and 'dizzy' symptoms hike.
Well, last night I let my dog out about 11pm (Masham, North Yorkshire) and thought I heard thunder in the distance. My dog barked when he heard it and I felt off balance. This morning I read the BBC news to discover there had been a 3.9 earthquake at 11.15pm in Hull, not too far from me as the crow flies.
For the last couple of days I've been really off balance and assumed it was because I had been to the Jane McDonald concert two days ago as it takes me a few days to get over the travel and the flashing lights, not to mention the loud audio. Then yesterday morning I had to wear my peaked hat and shades when I went outdoors because I felt off balance and nauseous. I think it's been the approaching earthquake. I'd love to know if you have had the same symptoms before, or when, there's been an earthquake?

Home Car Valeting Services
For a while I'd been looking for a first class home valeting service for a long time without success. Google came up trumps and I found the amazing Pete McBretney's Home Car Valeting Service and thought I'd spread the word so you all could receive the benefit.
It was hard going for me to try to wash and vacuum my car (it didn't get done very often only when the garage did it) due to my having a debilitating vestibular disorder.
I thanked my lucky stars when I found Pete McBretney. Pete lives not too far from me, but he covers a thirty-five mile radius from his base at Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire, and he is an absolute pleasure to do business with. When he's finished valeting my car it looks like it's just come out of a showroom, and I feel like I have a new car. Pete doesn't rush, he does a thorough job, and doesn't charge the earth for it.

Orangutan Protection Foundation Raffle
Thanks to the generous support of Dave Heron, proprietor of No 12 Greengrocers in Masham, North Yorkshire, UK, the Orang-utan Protection Foundation are £130.00 richer.
Dave and his staff have sold raffle tickets from No 12 during January and February 2014. The draw took place on the afternoon of Friday 28th 2014 and the winners were drawn by OPF Ambassador Ellen Dean.
Originally there were three prizes but this increased to four on the draw day:
a gorgeous cuddly orang-utan; a box of fresh fruit and vegetables donated by No 12 Greengrocers; wine and chocolates donated by Ellen Dean; bottle of wine kindly donated by Derek of Corks and Cases, Silver Street, Masham.
The winners are:
R. Merrin - cuddly orangutan,
Mrs. Jarvis - wine and chocolates,
Mrs. Chalmers - bottle of wine,
David whose surname we don't have but we know him as David of Acorns - box of fresh fruit and vegetables.
A huge thank you to Dave, Sue and all who took part. Congratulations to the winners.

Masham and Kirkby Malzeard Patients Support Group, North Yorkshire
On Wednesday 8th June 2011 Masham & Kirkby Malzeard Patients Support Group presented Dr. Steven Broadbent GP with a Heine Dermatoscope for use in the Practice.

Dr. Broadbent thanked the Patients Group for their kind donation. He said that this piece of equipment would enable GP’s within the Practice to closer examine skin lesions, in particular moles. This is a new piece of equipment which should enable doctors to be able to determine which moles could be malignant.

The Dermatoscope works by using a bright light source and magnifying plate with a blob of alcohol jelly between the two to enable high magnification viewing of the skin and its relevant structures. This is a fairly new dermatological skill that Dr Broadbent and Dr Gardner are acquiring with the aim for prompt diagnosis and hopefully reduced referral rates.
Members of the Patients Support Group were invited to try the Heine Dermatoscope using Dr Broadbent as a guinea pig. As a committee member I found this piece of equipment to be amazing.

Bjorn Belief at The Georgian Theatre, Richmond, North Yorkshire
Sat Nav, Amy and I caught up with our favourite Abba Tribute band Bjorn Belief again last Friday night at The Georgian Theatre in Richmond.
The band was on top form. In fact they were Super Troopers! We had a brilliant night and they absolutely wowed the audience.
Great songs, brilliantly sung, plus zany jokes and funny dialogue in between numbers that had everyone laughing and clapping. Of course, we all joined in with our arms swaying and feet stamping (pity you can't dance in The Georgian 'cos my feet were itchy) as we sang along to everything from Waterloo to Thank You For The Music.

Earthquake 3.6 Rocks North Yorkshire 3rd January 2011
At 9.03pm last night here in Masham, North Yorkshire, we felt the earth move. Was it an extremely heavy lorry going through our village? Was it a mega clap of thunder? Neither. It was an earthquake. And, not just one earthquake, but two.
My niece Amy and friend Brian were rehearsing (singing) in our living room preparing for their performance in Kirkby Malzeard on Thursday night, Sat Nav was counting them in and I was in the kitchen when we heard a huge rumble. Initially, I thought it was thunder. Brian thought it was a helicopter.
About five seconds later there was another rumble. Sat Nav checked the ponies, they were unsettled. I announced the event on facebook and twitter. Within seconds I had replies from all over North Yorkshire saying people had felt the same thing.
Then the news broke that it was in fact an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was Kirkby Malzeard, very close to where I live.
After about half an hour I felt cold so I went to turn the wall heating thermostat up. Now this is bizarre. It was turned off. Nobody had touched/altered it so how it came to be that way is a mystery. In fact we didn't know that it could be turned down so low - we are hot house plants!

Masham Musical Society Annual Concert

Masham Musical Society, conducted by Jonathan Heitler, accompanist Anthony Rudd, gave an outstanding performance in Masham Town Hall on Saturday 4th December 2010.
Despite the adverse weather conditions the concert was very well attended and the audience enjoyed 'A Miscellany Of Song' from Moon River to When I'm 64 and a selection of Christmas Carols. In the second half the audience enjoyed singing along to the Carols with a bit of brilliant and fun conducting by Jonathan.
Neil Craddock and Alistair Staton gave good solos performances, and Mr. and Mrs. Peach performed a lovely duet. Plus, there was an outstanding cello performance by 13 year old Jessica Bryan - a talent to watch - beautifully accompanied on the piano by Anthony Rudd.
At the end of the performance we enjoyed a pleasant supper and had chance to chat with members of the society.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I was sorry to learn that Mr. Heitler is taking a year out which means that the Musical Society will be looking for a conductor for their 2011 concert. Big boots to fill!
And if you're wondering why there's no photos of Sat Nav, it's because she wasn't able to sing due to a sore throat.

Masham Musical Society will be performing their annual concert 'A Miscellany of Song' in the Town Hall, Masham, North Yorkshire, on Saturday 4th December 2010 at 7.30pm.

Masham Players perform Ding Dong directed by Ellen Dean & Kathy Boyer

If you missed Masham Players performance of Ding Dong - you missed a treat because it was absolutely fantastic!!!
Our excellent cast:
Guy Wilman - new to the Players - playing Bernard Marcellin the aggrieved husband of the naughty Jacqueline played by Sue Smith.
Richard Bailey played Robert Regnier - Jacqueline's lover. But who is his wife?
Throw in the Marcellin's overworked and underpaid maid Marie-Louise (Pam Grimsditch) who also has a keen eye for Bernard, and the high class call girl Barbara (Kathryn Holland) paid by Robert to pretend to be his wife Juliette into the mix, and things start to simmer nicely. . . but then along comes the real Juliette (Julie Prescott)! Result? Complete mayhem! All very oh la la, darlings :-)

A Pudding at The White Bear, Masham, North Yorkshire
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and pudding at The White Bear, Masham last Tuesday evening.
Amy tried Summer Pudding for the first time; her face says it all. The pud wasn't to her taste. That's absolutely no reflection on the food though which was delicious. I said she should have tried the sticky toffee pudding :-)
